Take-a-hike: Fire and Forest Health in Shanahan Forest

  • Zoom Online Link provided upon registration (map)

We thank all of our Take-a-hikers and our partners for engaging in this event on how fire (past and present) has shaped the Shanahan Ridge area

Summary of Event:

This virtual hiking experience took take-a-hikers to the City of Boulder’s Shanahan Trailheads as they learned about about the ecology of ponderosa pine forest ecosystems and the work the City has done to improve forest health, manage wildfires, and protect our backyard habitats. In the opening Zoom gathering, participants heard from Chris Wanner, a forest ecologist from the City of Boulder to learn about how to access the story map and get an introduction to many forest ecology concepts and the current work the City of Boulder has done in the area. Many of our take-a-hikers were able to go on this hike individually as they were guided by the story map. After participants took this virtually guided hike, Chris Wanner met up with participants in our closing zoom gathering to answer participants’ questions and share their observations. It was a lively event, and we were grateful for all of our take-a-hikers and partners’ engagement.
